Petrick Brown, Parking Lot Crash, Death Obituary: Family And Friends Mourns Tragic Loss

The Augusta community is grappling with a heavy sense of sorrow and concern following two separate pedestrian-related incidents that occurred early Wednesday morning in Richmond County. One incident resulted in the death of 52-year-old Petrick Brown, while a second left a woman hospitalized after being struck by a train. Both events, occurring within hours of each other, have left families, witnesses, and first responders deeply shaken.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were first dispatched around 5:06 a.m. to the 3100 block of Peach Orchard Road after reports of a pedestrian-involved collision in a parking lot. When officers arrived, they learned that Petrick Brown had been struck by a vehicle traveling through a designated lane in a dimly lit area. Investigators reported that Brown, who was wearing dark clothing at the time, stepped into the path of the moving vehicle, and the driver stated they were unable to see him before impact.

Emergency responders quickly transported Brown to Wellstar MCG Hospital, where medical staff made efforts to save his life. Despite those efforts, he was pronounced dead at 5:44 a.m. The Richmond County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation. His sudden passing has left loved ones and community members mourning a deeply unexpected loss.

Just over an hour later, at approximately 8:23 a.m., deputies responded to a second incident on the 1800 block of Wylds Road involving a pedestrian and a CSX train. Authorities say a woman was on or near the railroad tracks when an approaching train came into view. She attempted to move out of the way but was struck before she could fully clear the tracks.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital, where she is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Her identity has not been released as officials continue to notify family members and gather additional information. CSX officials joined law enforcement at the scene, and rail operations in the area were temporarily halted while investigators documented the incident and ensured safe clearance of the track.

While both incidents are being investigated separately, their timing has left the Augusta community particularly unsettled. Residents are reflecting on how quickly routine moments can turn into emergencies, especially in low-visibility or high-risk areas such as dim parking lots and active rail crossings.

Authorities have emphasized that investigations into both events remain ongoing as they work to determine all contributing factors. In the meantime, community members are offering condolences, support, and concern for everyone affected, including the families involved and the first responders who responded to the scenes.

As Augusta continues to process these painful events, Petrick Brown is being remembered with sorrow by those who knew him, while hopes for recovery are being extended to the injured woman and her loved ones during this difficult time.
