Judy Rice devoted her life to dance with remarkable passion, discipline, and grace. Since joining the University of Michigan faculty in 1990, she became a deeply valued member of the SMTD community and a source of inspiration to countless students pursuing careers in performance and choreography. As the inaugural recipient of the SMTD Teaching Excellence Award, she was recognized not only for her artistry, but also for her outstanding commitment to teaching and mentorship.

A graduate of the National Ballet School of Canada, she performed widely across the United States and Canada with prestigious companies including the Joffrey Ballet, the National Tap Dance Company of Canada, and American Ballet Comedy.
