Marilyn Buckner Loyal, OK, Death Obituary: Family And Friends Mourns Tragic loss
It is with deep love and profound sadness that the family of Marilyn Kay Buckner announces her passing on May 9, 2026, at the age of 85. She passed peacefully at her home, surrounded by love, with her two children holding her hands—a final moment that reflects the closeness and devotion that defined her life.
Marilyn was born on February 5, 1941, in Oklahoma City to Clyde and Virginia (Nusz) Waters. She grew up near Loyal, Oklahoma, where she developed a lifelong appreciation for family, animals, and the outdoors. From an early age, she showed both determination and excellence, graduating from Loyal Public Schools in 1959 as salutatorian. She also distinguished herself in athletics, serving as the pitcher on a state championship softball team, a reflection of her strength, discipline, and spirit.
After graduation, Marilyn began working at local banks in Kingfisher and Hennessey, where she built early ties to the community that would remain central throughout her life. In December 1959, she married Lloyd “Pete” Buckner, and together they created a life grounded in farming, faith, hard work, and enduring love. Their 65-year marriage stood as a testament to partnership, resilience, and shared devotion.
Marilyn’s greatest legacy, however, may be found in her decades of service to education. In 1974, she began working as the Hennessey High School secretary, a role she would hold for 41 years. During that time, she became a steady, caring presence for generations of students, offering encouragement, kindness, and unwavering support. She was more than an administrative figure—she was a source of comfort, guidance, and familiarity for countless young people as they moved through an important stage of life. Her contributions were recognized through honors such as induction into the Hennessey High School Hall of Fame and the Lifetime Eagle Award.
Beyond her work at the school, Marilyn embraced a full and meaningful life. She enjoyed dancing with her husband Pete, attending community gatherings, and participating in organizations such as the Child Study Club, First United Methodist Church, and the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State. Her life was deeply rooted in service, connection, and community involvement.
She is lovingly survived by her children, Steve (Diann) and Melanie; her grandchildren Olivia (Kaden), Brok (Kim), Staci (Dustin), Cody (Chelsea), Colby (Kenna), Ryan, and Sailor; her brother Charlie Waters (Kristy); along with many extended family members and friends who will continue to cherish her memory.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Pete, her parents, an unborn child, and other beloved family members. Her passing marks the end of a life rich in love, service, and dedication, but her influence remains deeply woven into the lives she touched.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Hennessey High School Auditorium, where family, friends, students, and community members will gather to honor her life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Marilyn Buckner Eagle Spirit Scholarship Fund, continuing her lifelong commitment to supporting students and strengthening the community she served so faithfully.
Marilyn Kay Buckner will be remembered with love, gratitude, and deep respect—a life well lived, and a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations.
