Mason Alkire, 22, County Texas, Death Obituary: Family Mourns Tragic Loss
The Jones County, Texas community is mourning the tragic death of 22-year-old Mason Alkire, who was killed Monday evening in a motorcycle crash on State Highway 6.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision occurred around 7:30 p.m. south of Farm-to-Market Road 704 and involved a motorcycle and a truck towing a dump trailer. Authorities said Alkire, who was from Barton, Maryland, was riding a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja northbound at the time of the crash.
Investigators’ preliminary findings indicate that Alkire was attempting to overtake another vehicle when he returned to the northbound lane and was unable to control his speed. His motorcycle then collided with the rear of a 2022 Ford 350 truck pulling a 2025 Big Tex dump semi-trailer.
The driver of the truck, identified as Jeremy Harris, 42, of Stamford, Texas, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. No other injuries were reported.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Alkire was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Cheryl Guemsey due to the severity of his injuries. Authorities confirmed that weather conditions were clear, the road surface was dry, and the posted speed limit in the area was 75 mph. Officials also noted that Alkire was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to review the circumstances surrounding the crash as part of its ongoing investigation.
