Paul Donahue, 49, Minnesota, Motorcycle Crash, Death Obituary: Family Mourns

The Roseau County, Minnesota community is mourning the death of 49-year-old Paul Donahue, who was killed in a tragic motorcycle crash on May 7, 2026, at the intersection of County Road 124 and 420th Avenue.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol and Roseau County authorities, emergency responders were called to the scene around 8:24 p.m., where they found Donahue’s motorcycle heavily damaged and the rider unresponsive in the roadway. First responders immediately began CPR efforts, but he was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving attempts.

Investigators determined that Donahue’s motorcycle, reportedly traveling around 60 mph, collided with the driver’s side of a white Chevrolet pickup truck that was heading west through the intersection. The crash proved fatal on impact, leaving the community shaken by the sudden loss.

Following the investigation, authorities identified the pickup driver as 53-year-old Rodney Werk of Roseau and the driver of a red Kia as 21-year-old Shayleigh McKay, also of Roseau County. Court documents indicate that both individuals are now facing felony charges connected to the crash.

Werk has been charged with criminal vehicular homicide, felony hit-and-run, and gross misdemeanor DWI counts. Prosecutors allege his blood alcohol concentration measured .151, and records show a prior DWI conviction that may enhance the current charges.

McKay is also facing felony charges, including failure to stop at a collision involving death, along with gross misdemeanor DWI counts. Authorities reported that she was later stopped driving without headlights or taillights and showed signs of intoxication, with a breath test allegedly registering .16.

According to statements provided to investigators, McKay claimed she briefly stopped at the scene, spoke with the pickup driver, and left after being told no help was needed. She stated she did not realize a fatal motorcycle crash had occurred. Authorities, however, continue to investigate the sequence of events leading up to and following the collision.

The case remains active in Roseau County District Court, where both Werk and McKay are being held pending their initial court appearances.

As the legal process moves forward, the loss of Paul Donahue has left family, friends, and the wider community grieving a life cut short in a devastating and preventable tragedy.
